photo of the author Rimantas Pleikys was born in Vilnius, Lithuania in 1957. He served as an apprentice technician at a television transmission facility and went on to study at the Vilnius University School of Journalism where he later taught courses on radio and television broadcasting. In 1989 he founded the first independent radio station in Lithuania and later worked as the Editor-in-Chief of "Radiocentras" radio station. In the fall of 1996 he served as campaign manager for the "Tėvynės Sąjunga" (Homeland Union) party during the Parliamentary elections and again in the fall of 1997 for Prof. Vytautas Landsbergis' presidential campaign. Since December of 1996, Rimantas Pleikys has served as a member of the Seimas (Lithuanian Parliament) and as a member of the Seimas Committee on National Security. In addition to his Seimas duties, Rimantas Pleikys in 1996-1998 was Minister for Communications and Informatics. Rimantas Pleikys lives in Vilnius with his wife Gracija, son, Justinas, and daughter Dalia. It is to them and to his mother, Teresė, that he dedcates this book.
